Porsche Boxter Gears Up For 2016 Launch

9 Feb 2015

A hard-core version of Porsche Boxter could be badged as Club Sport in 2016 while being ultra-lightweight

Porsche is about to introduce an extra sporty version of the Boxter with powerful engines as a successor model of its Spyder version which was introduced in 2011. All new Boxter is in the development phase yet, but Porsche has announced that it will be offered for sale in 2016. The new hard-core version was seen here during its winter testing in very cold conditions. It could revive the missing Club Sport from the Porsche model line-up.

Porsche boss Wolfgang Hatz confirmed at Detroit Motor Show 2015 that a new Boxter Club Sport is about to come out, while he also announced that the new Club Sport will not adopt the GT4 nameplate like the new Cayman.

He also revealed that the Club Sport model will be wholly designed and developed by the mainstream Porsche operation rather than Porsches’ Motor Sport division. It’s understood that the Boxter won’t offer extra power than the current GTS which is a range topping model of Sport division. It gets 325bhp of power from its 3.5litre flat-six petrol engine.

Porsche design and development team is currently focusing on the weight of the Boxter and setting up the chassis for more sporting set-up.

According to the development team, there won’t be colossal style changes in the new Boxter. It will be limited to the front bumper round-up while the new spied model gets larger side air intakes along with a central air vent in the same manner as of the 911 GT3 RS. All new Porsche Boxter will go on sale next year, it is highly probable that a more hard-core version will be seen in 2016. Prices will be a bit higher than a Boxter GTS.
