Fact – Drivers Hate Mondays

Do you know which day of the week UK drivers hate the most? It’s Monday. This has been revealed in a new insurance data by insurance website swiftcover.com’s 2013 claim data. It found that drivers were 17% more likely to have an accident and then claim on a Mondays than any other day. The data also reveals 36% more damaged windscreens at the start of the week, with more than 10,000 claims on Mondays in comparison to the daily average of just 7,992 claims.

More Single car crashes on Mondays

It seems like drivers don’t really like Monday’s when it comes to  single vehicle car crashes. A claim falls into this category if a car strikes a lamp-post or bollard, for example, and no other cars are involved. Maxine Tighe, head of motor claims at swiftcover.com, explained the higher Monday numbers were down to commuters struggling to get back into work mode after the weekend.  “Over the past year we have seen a trend developing between the type of motor claims we receive and the day,” she said. “Monday sees many people starting the week with a single vehicle collision.”

More Multi Vehicle Motor Accidents on Friday

When it comes to multi-vehicle motor accidents, Friday is the worst day as motors hasten home in the rush-hour pandemonium. During the rest of the week a consistent claim rate is recorded and the weekend sees a quiet period for accidents and damage as fewer drivers are on the road. A rise in loss of keys, theft and vandalism was seen on the weekend, as cars are more at risk when left unattended outside homes.
