Volkswagen is calling this new Passat Estate a “Go-anywhere” car

At Geneva Motor Show 2015, there were supercars, concepts, saloon, and hatches everywhere from all the major auto manufacturers. Among all these jaw-dropping hypercars, there was something a little more practical about this one particular car, yes! We’re talking about VW Passat Alltrack. The company is calling it a “go-anywhere” car and they are probably right about it.

The all-new Passat has been fitted in permanent four-wheel drive, has been lifted up a bit to make it an all-terrain vehicle and boosts protective body cladding for additional safety. With VW engine range offering power outputs from 148 bhp to 237 bhp, various petrol and diesel engines have been offered into this new rugged all-rounder. This new car is based on the Passat Estate but to give it more off-road capability, a 27.5mm has been increased in the ride height.

Passat is a family car thus it requires some exceptional bodywork like thoroughly redesigned rear and front bumpers, protective side skirts, plastic wheel-arch, and 17-inch alloy wheels to transform into a rugged estate. The standard Passat doesn’t feature a great of techs inside the cabin, just plain old stainless steel door sills, and Apple CarPlay with 6.5-inch media system. But when you take a look at all new Passat Alltrack, the whole prospect changes. Along with all the standard feature offered in Passat, Alltrack includes new off-road driving mode and Trailer Assist, helping the Passat to achieve maximum towing capacity.

As the Alltrack version is based on the standard eighth generation Passat, it too uses the MQB architecture, Volkswagen is famous for. It’s not just the structure the Alltrack has borrowed from standard Passat, the engine range has also been carried over. Passat Alltrack is offered in 2.0-litre TDI diesel versions producing 148 bhp, 187 bhp and 237 bhp. The two petrol TSI turbo engines offered produces 148 bhp and 218 bhp.

The prices have not been shared yet, but we know we want our hands on one of these.
