The Huge Investment of £20m is Part of Aston Martins’ Long-term Business Strategy and will Create 250 New Job Opportunities by 2015

Aston Martin has announced plans to expand its car-making facilities at its global HQ in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The expansion will cost £20m and will create 250 new jobs as Aston Martin promised ‘next generation of new sports cars’.

This £20m will create 10,000 square meters of new chassis and assembly build-zones along with new offices and more storage space. The completion date for the project is targeted in 2015, with Aston promising its business is preparing “to grow substantially” and “gearing up for its next generation of new sports cars”.

The money comes from a tie up between Aston Martin and Mercedes announced last year. Daimler AG takes a 5% stake in Aston Martin’s ownership whereas Aston will share Mercedes’ twin-turbo V8 engine technology as well as electrical systems. Aston Martin Chief Financial Officer, Hanno Kirner commented on the Gaydon plant’s expansion: “The investment in our Gaydon HQ forms part of our long-term strategy which is focused around being the number one British luxury sports car brand.”

Keith Stanton, Aston Martin Manufacturing Operations Director added: “We have the vision of being the best producer in the luxury sports car sector and a new facility, along with the support of our flexible, highly-efficient workforce, will enable us to achieve our goal.”

It is worth pointing out that the Gaydon expansion plan comes off the back of a £500m investment plan given in 2012 by its foreign investors. Aston Martin is focusing on developing DB9 replacement due on sale in 2016. The new generation DB9 will be based on Aston’s all-new architecture, replacing the ‘VH’ aluminium structure. It will replace the architecture used in the Vantage, DB9, DBS and Rapide since 2001.
